The Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) is dedicated to improving the environment where 83% of Americans live - cities, towns and metropolitan areas. Together, local ACT member organizations have planted 7.8 million trees with help from 450,000 volunteers nationwide.

Mission Statement
To support grassroots, citizen-based nonprofit organizations dedicated to urban and community tree planting, care, conservation, and education.

History
The Alliance for Community Trees was incorporated in 1993 as a problem-solving center for leaders of community-based urban forestry groups. Its founders shared a vision of healthy, functioning urban ecosystems nurtured by a broad base of community stewards.

Today, ACT is a growing coalition of 100+ organizations involved in grassroots community greening, public education, policymaking, and other activities supporting better urban forest stewardship.

Strategic Plan
Through information sharing, training, technical assistance, policy and program development, and advocacy, ACT pulls together the pioneering work of citizen foresters across the country to improve the quality of life for us all.

Strategic Plan Goals

  • Support member groups by providing services and networking opportunities
  • Enlist member groups who represent the diversity of our communities
  • Promote the vital contributions of ACT and its member groups
  • Represent the collective concerns of members on selected public policy issues
  • Nurture effective working relationships with national organizations and public agencies
  • Build the infrastructure of ACT to support its members
