Loon Echo Land Trust was formed in 1987 by community members who saw the need to preserve the natural areas of the region. Since then, Loon Echo has worked with area residents, businesses and organizations to protect land through conservation easements, land purchases and land donations. Our first preserves, the Mayberry Hill Preserve and Bald Pate Mountain Preserve, are beautiful areas for the public to enjoy with walking and cross country ski trails. We have become partners with the Lakes Environmental Association to purchase land around Holt Pond and the Muddy River, headwaters to Sebago Lake. Our largest land preserve, the Pleasant Mountain Preserve, is a hiking destination for thousands of people each year. Currently Loon Echo is busy with the Pondicherry Park Project and Phase II of the Pleasant Mountain Project.
